Really? There's quite a few artworks around that show her with a different coloured vest. The one I recall best is the Bruce Timm with the gold vest. Though I've not seen different coloured hatbands. I was thinking of doing a red velvet and satin vest for mine, as I love red and love the red/black/white combo.

Actually I did manage to find some artwork (I think Bruce Timm) with the red waistcoat, so I think I'll stick with it. I've had a 1m piece of the velvet in my stash for years that I wanted to make into a waistcoat, so when I decided to do Zatanna I figured it would work! I want to do the collar and welt pockets in the satin as a contrast. Plus it puts into practice skills I've been learning at school as we recently drafted a fitted waistcoat and learnt how to do welt/jetted pockets! Hoping to get it done very soon!

I finally got my Zatanna made! It was a bit of a rush, but in the end I was pretty happy with it.


The shirt was just a regular long sleeved button up shirt, the jacket was a gift from a friend, the briefs, and stockings were store bought. The bow tie was made from ribbon (I'd like to buy a proper one for future events). The vest was custom made, lightly boned with steel. The front closes with hooks and eyes, but when I get a machine that does buttonholes, I've got some pretty buttons to change it to button front.

As you can see I did two different versions. The first one was based on the classic look, with the shirt underneath. I used high cut briefs as I've been told they lengthen the leg, but I honestly didn't feel comfortable in them nor did I feel they were particularly flattering on me. I wore it again the next day, after changing out of Silk Spectre, so I decided to do more of the Adam Hughes version. I kept my Silk Spectre corset and briefs on, and was much happier with the look of the briefs. Sadly my dark hair doesn't photograph well, but I kept my Silk Spectre hair as well (just pinning the bangs  in a curl at the side) and really liked the look!
