GREEN LANTERN'S LIGHT!" 2010 SCF Co-MVP SCF Superhero 2010 SCF Superhero 2011	Tags : flash Remove this ad The Flash (Wally West) Created by: DarkAvenger84 (Ned Cox) Debuted: Hospital visit-Shriner's Hospital Tampa (no pictures taken) Costume by Margie and Ned Cox Though not my favorite or "signature" character, but this is definitely the costume that I'm most proud of. It's the first one that my wife and I put together ourselves from top to bottom. Nothing was commissioned. We're very happy with the way it turned out. I did the patterns, cut out the undermask, dyed the unitard, and sewed the "boots". My wife did the rest. I've got most of the pieces assembled for TWO flash costumes, but no time to do the finishing touches since I'm studying for the bar. I recently did a test of foil on my riding boots and that didn't turn out so hot. So I took them to a sign guy but he couldnt make it work either. The sign mylar just wont stick. Of course I could always re-try with some glue of some sort. I think I'm going to try this stuff that you can buy in a tube at Michael's that you rub on to get a gold mirror finish. If that doesnt work i'll just go with an orangey gold or maybe Jacquard Lumiere paint + this stuff that we put on horse saddles called Saddle Lac. It gives the glossiest finish of anything gloss coat i've ever seen. The Barry Allen is almost finished too. Just have to airbrush the boots with the Angelus leather dye I have and paint the matching belt and bracers. If either of mine are half as good as yours I'll be stoked :D Thanks for asking. I've really fallen in love with the Flash lately. :) I'm hoping he gets a big role in Blackest Night since he's the only character that can (literally) outrun death.

Posts: 676 Jul 18 09 11:15 PM Ring Slinger SCF Superhero	What the hell...figured I'd post a pic. This was a borrowed suit I wore for the DC shoot last Dragoncon. Didn't seem to be any other Flash costumers around so I volunteered to shave the goatee and don the speedster garb. I'm having a helluva time with a Shadowcat mask. What adhesive do you use? Also, how do you get it tacked down through the eye holes without wrinkles? Thanks!

GREEN LANTERN'S LIGHT!" 2010 SCF Co-MVP SCF Superhero 2010 SCF Superhero 2011	GeneJoke, If you'll take a look at some of the "making of" pictures in my original post, you'll see my wife and I cutting away at an undermask. One of the first things I did was go out to JoAnn's (or any craft store) and pick up a few. They're sturdy, but easy enough to cut with scissors. Once I had my shape and "eyeholes" right, I put the mask on underneath my full cloth hood and waited patiently as Margie cut the hood perfectly around my face and the mask (pictured here). She left enough excess that we could superglue the cloth beneath the undermask (so you'll never see it. Now I have a mask that sits perfectly on my face and you'll never see any adhesive. I went to see my seamstress on mine and she's doing the mask separate from the hood. I also bought one of the masks from Joann fabrics and the mask is going to be covered with the same material as we're using for the suit, but the hood will be a separate piece? So I guess I'll have to use fabric glue of some sort to glue it to the mask when it's done.

Posts: 66 Jul 22 09 3:33 PM	A few shots of my Flash costume, another production for this years Dragoncon. :-) Basically the base was a suit made for last year, but improved on the Mask Flashes, belt and boots. The red boots I had for last year, and never used in the end, just never worked for me. The accessories were all produced with a fabric base that has been rubberised. The boots were the old red boots covered in yellow rubber too, with foamy detail added to the top of the boot. 'Faster than a speeding bullet', well, thats what they tell me...' It unfortunately took a beating from the early rain before the shoot and I encountered some issues later with it;. However, I already have ideas for fixing/improving it for next year, like, real boots for one. I know it can be better, so be kind, remember, it's my very first attempt at any sort of costume.

I cut the belt, arm bolts and chest symbol all from styrene plastic, as was recommended by Brian. I need/want to redo them next for the next version. the belt and symbol were easy enough, but the arm bolts gave me some shit when shaping them. It was a bit hard to get them to not warp out of shape when inserting them into boiling water. I may upgrade to a thicker plastic for the next versions.
